About AASSTHA

The Association for Arts, Social Sustainability, Training, and Health for All (AASSTHA) was founded by Ms. Hemangini Thanawala, a dedicated resident of Chinchwad, Pune. Driven by her passion for environmental initiatives, education, health, and women’s employment, Ms. Thanawala established AASSTHA to support community development in both rural villages and urban slums across India.

Founded in 2020 as a not-for-profit Section 8 company (CIN:U85300PN2021NPL202291), AASSTHA is guided by Ms. Thanawala, who serves as Managing Director, along with two additional directors: Professor Janki Andharia and Ms. Kajal Thanawala, both professionals based in Mumbai. Together, they work to empower communities and create lasting impact through their diverse programs.

Our Directors

Hemangini Thanawala

Raised in Nadiad, Gujarat, is devoted to service and resilience. Educated at a Gandhian girls' school, she gained management and home skills through mentorship in Hyderabad. With diplomas in tailoring and naturopathy, she has dedicated herself to community welfare, contributing to the Janakidevi Bajaj Foundation and founding AASSTHA.

A Senior Professor at the Jamsetji Tata School of Disaster Studies, TISS Mumbai, has over 40 years in the development sector. With a doctorate from the University of East Anglia, her expertise spans Social Development, Disaster Management, and Community Organisation. She has taught globally, received awards, and serves on various boards.

Kajal Thanawala

An accomplished dancer and choreographer, she began dancing at age 5, mastering Bharat Natyam, Indian Folk, Classical Ballet, and Western forms. Founder of Nupur Dance Academy (1995), she has trained 10,000+ students and choreographed globally. As Director of AASSTHA, Kajal strives to inspire and contribute selflessly to society.

AASSTHA envisions a future where communities thrive through sustainable practices, mutual support, and social well-being, fostering a collective commitment to environmental conservation, innovation, and socio-economic development.

We are dedicated to empowering marginalized and vulnerable communities by promoting access to quality education, skill enhancement, and sustainable livelihood programs. We strive to bridge gaps in opportunity through training, vocational guidance, and social initiatives that encourage self-reliance and leadership. Our mission includes fostering environmental awareness, supporting healthcare access, and nurturing a culture of collaboration and resilience. By integrating these efforts, we aim to create a supportive ecosystem where individuals and communities can flourish and contribute to building a just, sustainable, and compassionate society.
